Channel Branding Brief

This was college project were we had to design the channel branding for a certain programme. I picked National Geographic and changed it to National Geographic Junior. The video contains the logo Ident, Channel Bug, Break Bumpers, Lower Third Supper and a Menu board. The Break Bumpers and logo Indents have a few different versions. I created the design myself out of various shapes. The menu Board was supposed to be dubbed but I didn't get a chance to record it. I shot all the time lapses myself. It was my first time using a proper camera. The images are from google and the sound effects are all from  freesound.org

Traditional Animation- Final Semester Project

Here is the final project for this semesters classical animation class. I made the key drawings and inbetweens.

Life Drawing

The first two pages were one minute drawings.  

The next drawings were 15 and 20 minutes. For those ones we had to start the figure with drawing oval shapes. 

Time-lapse

Here are a few clips of the time-lapse Videos I made last weekend. They are for the Channel Branding project on which the class is currently working on. I was a bit unlucky with the weather on Friday and especially Saturday but thankfully Sunday was a nice day. Considering it was my first time using a proper camera and making a time-lapse, I don't think I did too bad.

Final Rough Logo Idea

 The above images is going to be the logo for the Channel Branding Project. Everything that is black like the elephant and the typography will be white in the actual animation due to a video that will be played behind it. I only have it black right now so I can see it better when working on it. I am still not quite sure if the elephant should e more centred in the yellow box or a bit more to the side.  

I was just trying out different typography for the word Junior, but none of them worked. So in the end I picked the one in the above image.

The next four sketches were 15 minute drawings. For the last ones we had to focus on the oval shapes within the human body.

I apologise for the huge Flip Book watermark but I haven't bought the programme yet. Most of these are just exercises to help me become a better animator.

This was probably the hardest exercise so far. It's still not right. I will have to practise it more when I have more time.

For the cat one I completely forgot that the tail still has to move back the other way to make a full loop. I finished it yesterday but I wont be able to put it up for another while yet.

The tiger will be part of my final semester project for the Traditional animation classes. It  doesn't have to be long it just needs to be accurate.  I have most of the animation done I just need to add a secondary action to it. 

Life Drawing

The first two Images were 1 minute drawings for which I used my left hand. 

The following Image were 3 minute sketches done with my right hand. 

The last sketches were 15 minutes long. I think that I sometimes draw too small. 

Overall my life drawing skills need a lot of improvement. 

Eirtakon 2014

Eirtakon took place in Croke Park Confference Center in Dublin on the 21-23 of November.

It was my  first weekend at Eirtakon and I must say I had an absolute amazing time. I got to meet up with friends, cosplay and have lots of fun. The Uk39 Finale- Hatsune Miku & Friends concert was also really interesting. I cosplayed as Naruto from Naruto and as Amidala from Star Wars. My favourite part of  the weekend was to hang out with new and old friends and enjoy the convention together. I did however feel that the convention was missing water fountains as I was dehydrated throughout most of the weekend. Overall, this was a weekend which I will never forget and I recommend others to go to it. I'm looking forward to the next Eirtakon.

Life Drawing

This week for life drawing I was struggling a lot due to the awkward angles.  I still have a long way to go and a lot to improve on.

Traditional Animation Tweening

About two weeks ago we were introduced to our new animation tutor Barry. From him we are learning how to do Tweening. Bellow are the first four exercises he gave us to do. I had a lot of fun working on them and then seeing the final result. Barry gave us the Key Images and the rest was up to us to finish.                  

I have a lot f fun making these animations and I am looking forward to learning more and improving. 

Channel Branding Treatment File

The new Brief that we go is called Channel Branding.  We are required to design and create a new channel brand identity. These following elements must be included:

• Channel Indent- Duration 15 Seconds
• Break Bumper- Duration 1-2 Seconds
• Menu Board for Coming Up Next
• Promo Lower Third Super 
• Channel Bug- Animated Gif. 

These were the following themed television programmes from which we had to chose one to work on:

I chose to work on the National Geographic Channel.

I made a small mistake in the technique and approach part which I was unable to fix as the file won't open. I meant to say I ail design the logo in Illustrator not InDesign.
