Here is the finished video that Ian and me made for our group project "Let"s Play". The animation had to show a platform game that we came up with ourselves. Our game is about reaching the top of the food chain.

Some Food Chain Designs
Above is the imaginary company logo that me and Ian came up with. The special thing about it is that the flame flickers and glows.
I mostly worked on buttons and stuff like that. The food bar and Time limit bar are important aspects of the game.
Here are the game buttons I made that we were thinking of using for some scenes.
This is that planet which is used in the animation at the start. The planet basically is the main menu of the game where you get to chose what type of environment you want to start off in.
Food Chain Characters
Here are a few drawings from my sketchbook. I was trying to figure out how to make the characters with just using geometrical shapes as that was the look we were trying to go for. Because our animation was already too long the scenes in which the animals below were going to be on had to be left out (apart from the grass).
Different types of grass. These were just to give me ideas. The final design for the grass was created by Ian.
The Fox chasing the chicken and the shrimp catching bubbles were left out. Below are the designs for them. It took be a while to make the fox not look like a cat. I had a lot of fun designing those characters even if they weren't used in the end. I used Illustrator to create the final designs.

Treatment File: Let's Play
Concept/ Narrative:
The game begins and the player is presented with the option off becoming a land or sea creature. Depending on your choice you shall start at the bottom of the food chain. The aim of the game is to become the top predator. In order to move up the food chain, one has to eat, all the while avoiding predators, in a restricted time frame. This if done enables the player to level up becoming the next creature of that food chain. The game mostly consists of different types of mini games which have to be completed in a certain amount of time. If a player should fail to do so he will have to start all over again.
Technique and Approach:
We plan on making our assets for the animation in Illustrator and Photoshop, which will then be combined as well as animated in After Effects. We plan on using the particle effect tool to create bubbles and pollen.
Aesthetic/ Mood Board :
Mostly Pastel colours with little outlines. Different shades of blues for the ocean backgrounds. With browns and greens for the land environment. The characters will be based on simple shapes. Textured backgrounds with smooth characters. Cute style characters but not childish.
Colour Scheme- Pastel colours
blue and greens for the planet

Plot:
The opening will start with the Rating for the game, then followed by the game company name. It then shows a beam of light, coming from the sun, which will guide the player into the first game options available. The gamer must decide between two environments, Sea or Land. Depending on the chosen environment the storyline varies.Once Land is chosen the beam of light will land on that environment and evolve into the first living thing on that food chain, which in this case is grass. The grass needs to collect as much light as possible in order to level up and evolve. After succeeding the player then turns into a caterpillar that needs to collect silk and which then evolves into a cocoon. Once the gamer is a cocoon he must wait in order to become a butterfly. the days pass and the tittle "Food Chain" is revealed. Then it goes back to the cocoon waiting for its transformation to happen. When he finally manages to turn into a butterfly, he is eaten by a bird. The release date is then shown. The aim of the game is to start small and struggle to reach the top of the Food Chain.

Trying out Illustrator
Ian recommended a link on how to use Illustrator to me and I managed to create this pig. We are trying to use this style for our characters in the animation. This is my first time using Illustrator and I think it is actually fun to use.
Here is the link of the video which helped me to create this pig:

Random Picture for a small competition
I entered a competition from the game Mabinogi. I had to combine my character from the game with my favourite Sword Art Online character. I only had a few hours to do it as it was the last day for the entry, so it's a bit rushed. :D I mostly just entered for fun though. This is the first picture I drew since three months. I really need to practise drawing more, especially metal. I used watercolours.
