Ed Bruce- Visual Effects Supervisor

This Wednesday the visual Effects Supervisor, Ed Bruce came to visit our class. The studio he works for is Screen Scene VFX. He has worked on various series for special effects such as Game of Thrones  and Ripper Street. The latest thing that they seemed to be working on was The Last Day on Mars which will come out in Ireland in April. At the talk he described his work process of making the visual effects for The Last Day on Mars, such as the sandstorms and much more. I noticed that most of the backgrounds, base and cars aren't real, they are all CGI. Ed Bruce also told us about the difficulties that might sometimes occur and some tricks they use to waste less time.

The VFX Process:

  • Breaking down the Script
  • Storyboards
  • Asset Concepts
  • Recce
  • The shoot- Wadirum, Jordan and Elstree studios
  • The Dailies- locked edit- Turnover
  • 6 Months of hard work
