Remake of the Gif

After the group assessment some people found that my Gif showed the opposite of the friendship connection so I decided to change my Gif making it more suitable to my previous Ideas.

Gif Project- Connections between friendships/Relationships

For my IOpinion part two Brief I was looking at the connections between friendships and relationships. I read several articles online which had many key points, for forming a connection, in common.  The friendship and relationship key points slightly overlapped.  The things needed for friendships that appeared in most articles were: closeness, similarity, communication mutual understanding, attraction, fun/excitement, effortless communication and trust. The relationship key points were almost the same only that certain things mattered more than in friendships, such as attraction and the feeling of feeling complete.  One article in particular was very interesting because it almost said the complete opposites of what everyone else wrote.  This person mentioned that the people we become friends with are the people we see most frequently.  I found this point interesting because in a way I think it is true but not with all cases. I also read a chapter in a book called Philosophy and Friendships by Sandra Lynch. This chapter had so may key points that were not mentioned anywhere else.  According to the book the things that are associated with understandings of friendships were; liking, affection, love, intimacy, freedom, choice, utility, pleasure, goodness, equality, reciprocity and mutuality, shared activity, goodwill, trust care and concern, loyalty, steadfastness, similarity, difference, vulnerability and fragility. From researching I decided to look at two of my best friends and think about how and why they became my best friends.  The two friends I compared were completely different in everything. One I grew up with and one I spend only one year with in school and then didn’t see for 7 years. One has sooo many things in common with me while the other one has nothing in common with me at all, we have different nationalities and religions and no similar interests. I think that there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to what it is that connects people, since it is different for everyone.

I decided to look at my best friend in Germany whom I grew up with. I think the reason we connected was not because our parents were best friends but because we danced together for about 8 years.  The Gif of the figure doing the cartwheel is supposed represent the times we learned cartwheels and dancing in general. Just like the Gif looping over and over again we had to practice moves over and over again until we were all in sync.  Dancing together with her is one of the strongest memories I have with her and the biggest factor that connected us.

Nom-Con 2015

Nom.Con 2015 took place in the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin on the 30th of July to the 1st of August. It had its ups and downs but I extremely enjoyed it. Nom-Con 2011 was one of my first conventions ever and is what got me interested in cons and cosplay(for fun) in general, so I am very thankful to Nom-Con for that. I met up with old friends and made some new ones. I look forward to next year. Here are some of the pictures me and my friends took.

Presentation Video

This is a video I made for my college presentation. It shows all my experiences while I was away for work placement. Since a lot of my work that I did at Cork Marketing was still confidential the presentation focuses more on the time I spend with my colleagues rather than the work itself. I apologize for the bad quality of the voice over due to lack of proper recording equipment.

Sherkin Media Logo

 This is one of the few Logo's, which I did at work experience, were I closely worked together with my colleague, Roderick. I found that this was one of the hardest logos to design and took the longest. Sherkin Media create not only websites for their clients but they also help to promote their clients work. We went through many different Ideas before we decided on the final piece. the company Sherkin Media was named after Sherkin Island so we first thought of ways to somehow link the Logo with Sherkin Island. This Idea did not work out well at all since the whole concept of the company changed and it seemed more like a farming company. 

I also tried various ways trying to get Sherkin Island into the background of the logo but they ended up looking more like scout badges so those ideas were scrapped. 

I thought of adding a metal texture making it a bit more modern but it still didn't look right. 

We wanted the logo to be sharp and edgy so we thought about paper windmills. We then made one in the studio and took a picture of it which was then edited and made more sharp in Photoshop.

The metal windmill looked ok by itself but not with text. We continued to think o new ideas together and I tried them out. 

Since my work experience was coming to an end we decided to pick this out of the ideas I made. 

I then handed the files to my colleague, Roderick who then added the final touches. 

And thus Sherkin Media's Logo was born.

End of Work Placement

 I was working at Sherkin Media/Cork Marketing for six weeks. On the 8th of May 2015 I finished my last day of Work Placement. I had a great time and experience working with them and I learned a lot. Cork Marketing create not only websites for their clients but they also help to promote their company/products/work. It was my job to create Logo's for their clients,when they requested one.
