Work Experience update

Nothing much really happened since my last post. There is also no work I can currently show due to confidential matters. The last week and a half have been tough. My laptop kept blue screening, since its 5 years old, it doesn't surprise me.As my laptop was slowly dying I decided to buy an external hard drive to back everything up on. Due to the amazing luck I have with technology that external hard drive turned out to be faulty. All my video files that I was working on for the Diamond Glaze Video and images I was going to use for the Presentation were on it but it wouldn't let me access them. After a few days of my friends struggling to extract files at least some were saved and I was able to continue the video editing. On top of that I also caught a cold, which I am still trying to recover from. It wasn't really a bad week I just have absolutely no luck with technology whatsoever.

Work Experience Progress

Below is a synopsis of what has been going on at the work placement over the last 3.5
 weeks at Cork Marketing.

At the moment I have nothing to show until the websites go online. My work at cork marketing starts at 9.30am and ends around  5-6pm except on Fridays, were we finish at 4pm. The very first task I was given was to design an advertising banner for a the fitness website. I also made the head banner for above the menu bar for the fitness website. The next tasks involved making a Logo for the Partners in Fashion shop. I then had to design an advertisement banner for Diamond Glaze. The banner had to fit a lot of information into a small space. It had to say Car-skin Diamond Glaze, that it lasts up to 12 months, that it can be bought online and that it costs 45 euro. When working on the Diamond Glaze banner I learned a few useful things on Photoshop, for example how to add a shadow to things and how to use the pen tool properly. Since the programmer was very busy I added some text to the fitness website for her. I then had to design a logo for Osleder which is a company that sells lights. The logo could not be changed too much as the client wanted it to stay blue and black. I then had to design a Logo for Santry's Pharmacy. I then had to find a better colour combination for a construction site. My laptop had several blue screens until it decided to work again (it's dying). I had to slightly change the colour of the fitness banner to a darker red. I also had to come up with a better layout for the actual Cork Marketing Website. The Diamond Glaze Banner went online on the 9th of April. The background colour of the Partners in Fashion Logo was changed on request of the client. One of my colleague showed me how to use the feather tool. I had a look at a tyre logo and came up for a few ideas to redesign it but I came to the conclusion that the original logo was fine the way it was and didn't need any changes. I learned how to curve fonts and write text in circular shapes in Photoshop thanks to trying to improve the tyre Logo. I then designed a  moving Logo for a Pump Website. Through making the Pump Logo I learnt how to  export stuff keeping the  transparent background. The Partners in Fashion Logo went online on the 15th of April. I had to try to come up with a few ideas to improve the Sherkin Media Logo. I learnt how to make a half circle in Illustrator when creating the Logo for an Engineer Website. I helped to design a sample layout sheet with my colleague for a very important client. Right now I am editing video files of a homemade video my colleagues and me did for the Car-skin Diamond Glaze Product. Overall there was over 3 hours of footage so there is a lot of editing to do. I think that was all that happened over the last few weeks.

Partners in Fashion Logo

I had to come up with a Logo for Partners in Fashion. Partners in Fashion is a shop in the Douglas Village Shopping Centre in Cork which only sells certain Designer Brand clothes. After seeing a picture of the shop I got a vintage feel from it and decided to use that as my main focus. The logo originally has a white border which is not visible on the Webpage.

Making of the Partners in Fashion Logo:

To start off I decided to draw a few ideas into my sketchbook and write down a few key words which I thought of when looking at the appearance of their shop. From the words, I got the idea of creating a Logo that had a vintage feel to it.

Here are a few quick sketches to further get my ideas across. Once I was certain of what my aim was I drew it out on paper and scanned it. I then cleaned it up on Photoshop and added the text and the background.

Here is a picture of the Logo on the Partners in Fashion Website which went up yesterday:

Diamond Glaze Online Banner

For Cork Marketing I had to Design an online advertisement banner for Car-Skin Diamond Glaze. The banner had to catch peoples attention and fit a lot of information into one small image. This was a hard task since I have never done an advertisement banner before. In the end I am quite happy with the results and I also learned a few more things on Photoshop. I now have a better understanding of how to use the pen tool. Below are a few images to show the making of the Diamond Glaze Banner and how it developed into the final design.

Here it it is online:

Cork Marketing- Work Placement

For my work placement I am working at Cork Marketing which are responsible for web designing and also marketing and doing promoting for their clients. Cork Marketing is a branch of Sherkin Media which is located in Dublin. Cork Marketing is a relatively new company that is only been around for roughly 9 months. I am currently at the end of my third week of working with them and have another 3 weeks with them. I enjoy working there and I have learned a lot from my colleagues. I have been designing banners and logos for websites. Last week I was even working on designing a layout for the Cork Marketing Website.
On the right is my work desk.
